Brand Manager, Gary Halestrap
Gary entered the motor industry almost 30 years ago and a proven testament that our Family ethics hold tight in today’s world is that all of this time Gary has been with the Barnard family at Stowmarket. Starting in the Parts Department, dispensing Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes Commercial parts before moving to the service department. Having gained a great deal of understanding of the trade there, Gary made the change over to the Sales department. With this rounded experience he was well placed to accept the promotion as Aftersales Manager. Barnards then went through a period of modernisation as a result of the relief road and although we have remained on the same site in Station Road since our founder Oliver Barnard started the company, the showroom has become a prominent building in Stowmarket. In 2003, Gary became Brand Manager for Barnards of Stowmarket, where one of his first tasks was to steer Barnards through Volkswagens vigorous quality management audit, for which Barnards was one of the first to experience the audit and gain the accreditation. As of February 2015, Gary has now taken on the role of Brand Manager at the Bury St Edmunds Volkswagen site and looks forward to the new challenges ahead.
Through his career Gary has embraced the ever changing ways of the motor industry, and to ensure that he can provide a service second to none, he has trained with the Institute of the Motor Industry to the level of Automotive Management Accreditation (AMA).
Gary encourages his team to support local charities and always take part in the world’s biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan which is a personal favorite to Gary, and for which he ran the 2008 London Marathon.
By nature, Gary is a very active person, running and competing with the Stowmarket Striders whilst also competing in the regions triathlons.
When asked about his successes with Barnards and the Marriott Motor Group, Gary commented, "It’s a privilege working for a business that has been in existence for more than 100 years and still carries the family name".
